The Story Behind the Foothill Flames Tee

In the summer of 2018, life in Pilot Hill turned terrifying in an instant. A wildfire swept across our property, racing toward our home and climbing the trees in towering flames. At one point, the fire came within ten feet of the house. My daughter was at her cousin’s place next door, our dogs were home, and in the rush of the moment she did something brave and unforgettable—she ran inside, gathered the dogs, and escaped in her uncle’s van just as the flames shot sixty feet into the air.

Thankfully, no one was hurt. Thanks to the incredible work of Cal Fire, the brave crews on the ground, the lifesaving air drops from above, and God our home was spared. The fear of that day stayed with us, but so did an overwhelming sense of gratitude.

The Foothill Flames T-shirt is our way of finally being able to smile at a story that could have ended in heartbreak but didn’t. It’s a little tongue-in-cheek nod to the fire that almost took everything but, in the end, left us with perspective, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for community and safety.
